What Is the Mercedes-Maybach?

Mercedes-Benz vehicles are known for their superior performance, exceptional craftsmanship, and state-of-the-art technology. However, if you’re looking for something even more exclusive, the Mercedes-Maybach is an ultra-premium line of vehicles with an opulent cabin, pampering features, and an exhilarating driving experience. At Mercedes-Benz of Hoffman Estates, we’ll help you discover what makes Mercedes-Maybach models stand out among luxury vehicles.
What is the Mercedes-Maybach Model?
The Mercedes-Maybach is the ultra-luxury version of a Mercedes-Benz model. It’s designed to achieve the ultimate in automotive excellence, offering the utmost elegance, refinement, comfort, and exclusivity. When it comes to the interior, Mercedes-Maybach vehicles provide an experience unlike any other. The cabin is exquisitely furnished with lavish materials, refined touches, and immaculate attention to detail. Each model is tailor-made to suit the unique taste and personality of the person who owns it.
Maybach models compete at the top tier of luxury vehicles, going head-to-head with the likes of Rolls Royce and Bentley. As such, they’re often the most expensive vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, with the exception of a few high-performance AMG models. The price of a Mercedes-Maybach is in the low six-figure range and varies depending on which model you choose.
History and Heritage of Maybach
The history of Maybach goes back to more than a century ago. It was founded in 1909 by Wilheim Maybach, a former technical director of Daimler Motors Corporation. The company started out as a manufacturer of engines for rail cars and zeppelins. However, in 1921, it switched to producing limited-availability, high-end vehicles, one of which was the W3. Automotive production ceased during World War II, and the factory focused on supplying tank and half-track engines to the German military.
After the war, Maybach didn’t make automobiles again until 1960. In that year, Daimler-Benz purchased the company and used it to manufacture special editions of Mercedes vehicles. In 1997, Daimler unveiled a luxury concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show and then made two production versions of it: the Maybach 57 and the Maybach 62. Due to poor sales, it decided to discontinue the Maybach brand in 2012, and the last Maybach vehicle rolled off the assembly line in December 2012.
In 2014, the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class replaced the Maybach line. However, toward the end of the year, Daimler announced that it would revive Maybach as a sub-brand of the S-Class. This marked the birth of the Mercedes-Maybach.
Maybach Special Features
Maybachs are the top-of-the-line variants of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. While their capabilities and features may vary from one model to another, they all come with an array of unique elements and upgrades that distinguish them from their regular counterparts.
Interior
The Mercedes-Maybach interior features elegant and sophisticated styling, precision craftsmanship, and an abundance of deluxe materials and soft-touch surfaces. Leather-covered door sills and seat consoles, a leather and wood steering wheel, and 64-color LED ambient lighting give the cabin an opulent vibe, while an active noise cancellation system contributes to a quiet and tranquil ride.
Front passengers enjoy multi-contour seats with rapid heating, ventilation, a massage function, memory settings, and heated armrests. The rear seats recline and come with a power calf rest, heating, and massage. If you plan to be chauffeured or want your rear passengers to experience ultimate comfort, you can purchase the Executive Rear Seat Plus package that adds an extended center console, rear folding tables, temperature-controlled cup holders, and additional wood trim.
Infotainment System
Mercedes-Maybach models boast an impressive list of infotainment features to keep you connected and entertained on the road. They’re fitted with the latest MBUX infotainment system, a large touch-screen display, a digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone connectivity, a wireless device charger, in-car Wi-Fi, a Burmeister audio system, and a rear-seat entertainment system. There’s also a cutting-edge augmented-reality navigation system that shows easy-to-follow directions on the infotainment and head-up displays.
Driver-Assistance Technologies
To add peace of mind to your journeys, a Mercedes-Maybach offers a wide array of driver-assistance technologies. Besides adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, and other common driver aids, it also comes with advanced features such as active distance assistance, active steering assistance, active braking assistance, a 360-degree camera system, Car-to-X Communication, and Mercedes-Benz emergency call.
Performance
Although they’re mainly designed with comfort and luxury in mind, Mercedes-Maybach vehicles are also great to drive. Different models are equipped with different powertrains, but each one delivers blistering acceleration and a thrilling driving experience. For example, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has a 0-to-60 mph sprint time of 3.7 seconds with the optional 621-horsepower V-12 engine. Moreover, Mercedes-Maybach models come with the AIRMATIC® air suspension system and MAGIC BODY CONTROL to deliver a smooth and composed ride over rough surfaces and around corners.
Current Mercedes-Maybach Models
Currently, there are three Mercedes-Maybach models for you to choose from: the Maybach S-Class, Maybach GLS-Class, and Maybach EQS. The Maybach S-Class is a full-size sedan that’s ideal for urban commuting, while the three-row GLS-Class SUV is a great choice for active families. If you’re seeking an eco-friendly vehicle that doesn’t compromise on performance, go for the all-electric EQS SUV.
