The Midwest Automotive Designs Passage is the van that started it all. Born from the original Weekender Midwest’s very first vehicle, introduced at the 2001 SEMA Show the Passage has evolved over two decades into the most refined Class B motorhome on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter platform. It is not a conversion van. It is a fully self contained motorhome with a kitchen, a wet bath, solar power, onboard water management, and seating that transforms into a full length bed. It is, in short, a mobile home — just one that drives like a Mercedes-Benz.
At Mercedes-Benz of Hoffman Estates, we carry the Passage in stock and accept custom orders through Midwest Automotive Designs with nationwide delivery. This guide covers every specification, floor plan, feature, and option available on the 2026 Passage everything you need to configure the right build before ever setting foot on our lot.
Every Passage begins with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter but the chassis depends on the floor plan you choose. The FD2 rides on the Sprinter 2500 platform with a 144-inch wheelbase. All other configurations — the MD2, MD3, and MD4 — are built on the Sprinter 3500XD with the 170-inch extended wheelbase, the same extra-duty chassis used in the Luxe Cruiser. Available in rear wheel drive or all wheel drive, the Sprinter chassis provides the proven long haul reliability, fuel economy, and Mercedes-Benz engineering integrity that Passage owners have trusted for over 20 years of production.
Power comes from the 2.0L four cylinder high output turbodiesel engine, mated to the 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission. The Passage is classified as a Class B motorhome meaning it comes from the factory with everything you need to live and travel independently: onboard water tanks, a full kitchen, a wet bath with porcelain toilet, and solar power. Unlike the Luxe Cruiser which is designed primarily for point to point luxury travel the Passage is built for extended independent travel and full RV campground hookup capability.
The Passage is available in four floor plan configurations across two wheelbases each sharing the same full feature standard equipment list and the same Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. The difference between them is seating capacity, refrigerator size, cooktop configuration, and interior layout.
FD2 rides on the 144-inch wheelbase at 19 feet 6 inches overall. Two front captain’s chairs, a 3.5 cu ft refrigerator, single burner induction cooktop, and a 68 x 74-inch bed make this the most compact and maneuverable configuration ideal for solo travelers, couples who prioritize agility, and urban camping where a shorter footprint matters.
MD2 on the 170-inch extended wheelbase is the flagship two seat configuration. The 24-foot 2-inch overall length unlocks a 7.3 cu ft dual door refrigerator, dual burner induction cooktop, convection microwave, and a full 68 x 80-inch bed meaningfully larger than the FD2 in both storage and sleeping space. Ideal for couples on extended trips.
MD3 adds a third captain’s chair to the MD2 layout while retaining all the same premium amenities the 7.3 cu ft refrigerator, dual burner cooktop, and 80-inch bed. This is the configuration for a solo traveler who wants an extra seat for a passenger without giving up any kitchen or living capability.
MD4 is the full four seat configuration. Two front and two rear swivel and slide captain’s chairs seat up to 7 passengers with belts. A front HDTV is added as standard. This is the configuration for small families, active travel groups, and anyone who regularly travels with more than one other person.
Midwest Automotive Designs has always built the Passage interior to a quality level that exceeds what any factory motorhome manufacturer can achieve. Every Passage features Midwest’s signature hydro graphed wood cabinetry throughout a proprietary process that applies hydrographic wood grain film to cabinet panels and door faces for a depth and consistency that painted and stained wood simply cannot match. Soft touch automotive color keyed walls and headliner panels, coordinated door panels, and solid surface countertops complete an interior that photographs like a custom residential kitchen.
Seating is custom built in your choice of three signature stitch patterns — SLS Diamond, Diablo Hexagon, or Azure Waterfall — in any color combination from Midwest’s curated palette or a fully custom specification. Each captain’s chair is available with seat heat and massage as an option, and the rear power folding sofa converts to a full length sleeping surface without removing any furniture from the cabin.
The Passage kitchen suite is one of the most complete cooking setups available in any Class B vehicle. A coordinated front panel refrigerator keeps food cold without the visual intrusion of a commercial appliance in the living space. The stainless steel convection microwave handles everything from reheating to baking. An induction cooktop offers precise heat control without open flame, making the kitchen safer and more usable at rest stops and campgrounds alike. A deep stainless steel sink with a high arc faucet completes the countertop workspace, and a removable Lagun swivel table provides dining and workstation flexibility regardless of seating configuration.
All appliances draw from the Passage’s onboard 330Ah house battery system, charged by 320 watts of rooftop solar and the 30-amp shoreline connection. With the optional Freedom 1080 Package — 1,080Ah of lithium battery capacity paired with a 3,000-watt inverter — the Passage can run its entire kitchen suite, climate system, and entertainment setup for multiple days without any external power source.
Every Passage includes a fully private wet bath in the rear of the vehicle. The wet bath design integrates the toilet and shower into a single sealed compartment a practical and space efficient configuration that is standard in the Class B motorhome category. Midwest builds the Passage wet bath to a residential quality standard with a solid surface sink, brushed nickel faucet with handheld spray, porcelain toilet, and dual entry solid doors with portal windows. A power bath vent exhausts moisture and odor efficiently, and the shower walls and floor are fully sealed for easy cleaning. Heating pads on the fresh and grey holding tanks allow year round use in cold weather conditions, and the Sani-Flush system manages black and grey tank maintenance automatically.
Every Passage leaves the Elkhart factory fully equipped. Mercedes-Benz Expert Upfitter certified. RVIA Certified Motor Home.

Every Passage captain’s chair and sofa is available in one of three handcrafted stitch patterns. The pattern defines the visual identity of the entire cabin and coordinates with all door panel, headliner, and cabinetry finishes.
Midwest Automotive Designs offers five complete interior color systems for the Passage. Each palette specifies wood finish, wall fabric, piping, flooring, countertops, and seat fabric as a coordinated package. Go fully custom on a build to order unit.

Quick Look
The Passage traces its lineage directly to the Weekender the very first vehicle Midwest Automotive Designs ever built, debuted at the 2001 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Midwest was founded in 2000 in Elkhart, Indiana with a mission to bring private-jet-quality craftsmanship to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter platform. The Weekender became the Passage, and the Passage became the defining standard for what a luxury Class B motorhome could be.
In 2016, Midwest pioneered the Freedom Package the first lithium battery system designed to eliminate propane gas entirely from a Class B RV. That innovation remains in the Passage lineup today as the Freedom 1080 Package, and its influence can be seen across the entire Class B industry. Midwest became the first Quality Approved upfitter for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in the United States, a certification requiring full compliance with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards while maintaining the structural integrity of the Sprinter chassis.
In February 2026, Alliance RV one of the fastest-growing luxury towable RV manufacturers in North America acquired Midwest Automotive Designs from Terex Corporation. Midwest operates as a separate business unit within Alliance, with manufacturing remaining in Elkhart and all product lines continuing unchanged. The Passage, Luxe Cruiser, Athletic Series, and Business Class lines remain in full production. Mercedes-Benz of Hoffman Estates remains one of Midwest’s premier dealer partners, with full Passage inventory and custom order capability available now.
The best way to travel together. The MD2 configuration converts from two seat touring vehicle to a full length private bedroom in minutes. No hotel check-in, no pulling bags through a lobby at midnight. Just park wherever you want, flip the sofa, and you are home. The 27-gallon fresh tank and full kitchen mean you can go days without stopping for anything.
Luxury without boundaries. With the AWD chassis, Freedom 1080 lithium package, Starlink internet, and Overland exterior package, the Passage becomes a capable backcountry vehicle. All season tires and all wheel drive open terrain that most Class B vehicles cannot reach, while the full kitchen and solar independence keep you comfortable once you get there.
Four people, one vehicle, total freedom. The MD4 floor plan seats four passengers in Midwest’s handcrafted captain’s chairs, sleeps two in the rear lounge, and carries everything a family needs for a week on the road. No rental cars, no baggage fees, no hotel Wi-Fi passwords. Just the open road in a vehicle you actually want to be in.
The vehicle that makes every weekend count. Leave Friday after work, be anywhere within 500 miles by morning. The Passage handles equally well in a campground with shore power hookup and in a remote pull-off with no amenities whatsoever. It is the most versatile vehicle Midwest makes, and the one that fits the widest range of travel styles.
