A private suite on wheels, handcrafted on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500XD. In stock now at Hoffman Estates. Delivered anywhere in the country.
There is a category of vehicle that exists beyond transportation — one where the journey itself becomes the destination. The Midwest Automotive Designs Luxe Cruiser occupies that category alone. Handcrafted on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500XD chassis and built to an interior standard that rivals private aviation, the Luxe Cruiser is not a van. It is a private suite on wheels.
Mercedes-Benz of Hoffman Estates is one of the few dealers in the country with direct access to the full Midwest Automotive Designs lineup. We carry the Luxe Cruiser in stock and accept custom orders — with nationwide delivery available for buyers anywhere in the United States. This guide covers every feature, floor plan, and option available so you can configure your Luxe Cruiser before you ever visit our showroom.
Every Luxe Cruiser begins with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500XD the extra-duty variant of the Sprinter lineup with the highest payload rating and the longest available wheelbase. This is a deliberate choice. The 3500XD's reinforced rear axle and elevated GVWR provide the structural foundation required to support the Luxe Cruiser's handcrafted interior, lithium power system, entertainment suite, and private bath without compromise.
Power comes from the 2.0L four cylinder high output turbodiesel engine paired with a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission the same powertrain found throughout the Sprinter commercial lineup, with a proven track record of longevity and reliability across hundreds of thousands of miles of fleet service. The Luxe Cruiser pairs this dependable chassis with a cabin that contradicts everything you associate with commercial van interiors.
The Luxe Cruiser is available in multiple floor plan configurations across two wheelbase options. Every configuration is built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500XD — except the D4, which uses the 2500 144-inch platform for a more compact footprint. All 170-inch EXT configurations share the same 24-foot 2-inch overall length. Your choice of floor plan determines seating arrangement, passenger capacity, and how the rear living space is configured.
The Luxe Cruiser is built to order and fully configurable beyond the standard feature set. Luxe Cruiser The Ultimate Private Travel Van Every option below is available on your build talk to our van specialists to configure the right combination for your use case.
Every Luxe Cruiser captain's chair is available in one of three handcrafted stitch patterns. The pattern you choose defines the visual character of the entire cabin from the seat face to the door panels and headliner trim.
Midwest Automotive Designs has developed five complete interior color systemseach specifying wood, wall fabric, piping, flooring, countertops, and seat fabric as a cohesive package. Every material has been selected to work together.
Walk through the Luxe Cruiser in detail — interior reveals, feature walkthroughs, and quick-cut looks at what makes every build unique. All produced by Midwest Automotive Designs.
Midwest Automotive Designs didn't stumble into the luxury van market — they built it. Founded in 2000 in Elkhart, Indiana, the company launched with a singular mission: to craft luxury personal use conversions on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter platform at a level the industry had never seen. Their first vehicles, the Business Class and Weekender models, debuted at the 2001 SEMA Show and immediately signaled that something genuinely different had arrived.
What set Midwest apart from the beginning wasn't just the quality of the interior work — it was their commitment to engineering integrity. Midwest became the first Quality Approved upfitter for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in the United States, a certification that took two years to earn and required every conversion to be built in compliance with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards while maintaining the structural integrity of the Sprinter chassis shell. That certification remains a cornerstone of the brand's credibility today.
Over the next decade and a half, Midwest grew steadily — pioneering technologies along the way. In 2016, they introduced the revolutionary Freedom Package, featuring the first lithium power system designed to eliminate propane gas entirely from a Class B conversion. That innovation fundamentally changed how the industry thought about onboard power and set the template that competitors still follow today.
In 2017, Milwaukee-based REV Group acquired Midwest Automotive Designs, providing the capital and manufacturing resources to scale production significantly. Under REV, Midwest grew to over 200 employees, expanded its campus to more than 150,000 square feet, and produced private-label conversions for brands including Ultimate Toys, Chinook, Holiday Rambler, Fleetwood, and American Coach — while continuing to build the Luxe Cruiser, Passage, and Athletic Series lines under the Midwest name. By the time of the next ownership transition, Midwest had crafted over 13,000 vans and was building nearly 1,800 custom units annually.
On February 10, 2026, Elkhart-based Alliance RV — one of the fastest-growing manufacturers of luxury towable RVs in North America — completed the acquisition of Midwest Automotive Designs from REV Group, which had itself been acquired by Terex Corporation. The transaction marked Alliance RV's strategic entry into the motorized segment of the RV industry and represents the most significant ownership change in Midwest's history.
Alliance RV Co-Founder Ryan Brady described the acquisition as a natural extension of the company's growth strategy: the move brings together Alliance's manufacturing infrastructure, dealer network, and customer-experience philosophy with Midwest's 25-year reputation for handcrafted luxury conversion work. Notably, Alliance RV's headquarters sits approximately six miles from Midwest's Elkhart manufacturing plant — a proximity that positions the two operations for meaningful operational integration.
Critically, Midwest Automotive Designs will operate as a separate business unit within Alliance, with manufacturing remaining in Elkhart and the existing team continuing to lead day-to-day operations. The Luxe Cruiser, Passage, Athletic Series, and Business Class product lines continue unchanged. What Alliance brings is the backing of a well-capitalized parent company committed to customer-experience-driven design and sustained investment in product innovation.
For buyers, the Alliance RV acquisition is a net positive — the craftsmanship and product lines you've come to trust remain in place, now supported by a parent company with significant resources and a long-term commitment to growing the brand. As Co-Founder Coley Brady put it: "Our goal is to take that foundation and apply the Alliance RV difference." At Mercedes-Benz of Hoffman Estates, we are proud to continue carrying the full Midwest Automotive Designs lineup as this exciting new chapter begins.
The alternative to flying. Resort to resort, national park to national park, beach house to mountain cabin — the Luxe Cruiser turns a 6 hour drive into the best part of the trip. No middle seats, no baggage fees, no rental cars on the other end. Just your family, your music, and a private bathroom when someone needs it.
The private office that travels. Cellular internet, Apple TV, a sound system, massaging chairs, and enough lithium power to run a full day of work untethered. Buyers who previously flew short routes often find the Luxe Cruiser pays for itself within 18 months when compared to the combined cost of flights, hotels, and car rentals.
The vehicle that keeps the group together. Golf trips, wine tours, wedding weekends, bachelor and bachelorette travel — the D6's 10-passenger capacity means one vehicle, one driver, and everyone arrives together. No caravan. No one getting lost. No separate Uber receipts.
Luxury without limits. With the AWD chassis and Freedom 600 lithium package, the Luxe Cruiser becomes a capable off-season vehicle. Air ride suspension, all terrain tires, and 600Ah of power means you can park where hotels don't exist and still have everything you need.
