Midwest Automotive Designs was founded in 2000 in Elkhart, Indiana with a single mission: to bring private-jet-quality craftsmanship to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter platform. The company debuted at the 2001 SEMA Show in Las Vegas with two models — the Business Class and the Weekender — and in doing so launched the entire luxury Sprinter conversion category as it exists today.
Over the following two decades, Midwest became the first Quality Approved upfitter for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in the United States, introduced the Freedom Package — the first lithium battery system to eliminate propane gas from a Class B RV — and built over 20,000 luxury conversions across every major product line. The Passage, Luxe Cruiser, G Series, Athletic Series, Business Class, Professional Series, and Executive Shuttle are all products of that 25-year heritage.
In February 2026, Alliance RV — one of the fastest-growing luxury towable RV manufacturers in North America — acquired Midwest Automotive Designs from Terex Corporation. Midwest continues to operate as a separate business unit within Alliance, with manufacturing remaining in Elkhart and all product lines continuing unchanged.
